Posted on September 10, 2019September 8, 2019 by Up to the Hills

White Pass to Two Lakes Trail - 20 miles (32km) - 2315 miles total It was so lovely to sleep in today. Although sleep in was only until 6.30am, but I did then get to laze around in my tent until the store opened at 8am. At 8am we went to the store put on … Continue reading PCT Day 138 →

PCT Day 136

Posted on September 8, 2019September 3, 2019 by Up to the Hills

Riley Creek to waluput Creek - 30 miles (48 km) - 2269 miles total It was cold overnight and there was a lot of condensation making for a wet tent to pack up. My aim for the day was to make it to the reported trail magic in 14 miles before they left at 12pm. … Continue reading PCT Day 136 →

Trout Lake Creek to Riley Creek - 15 miles (24km) - 2239 miles total We woke up early to do 5 miles to the trailhead at the road to catch the first shuttle into town. The 5 miles came easy and before I knew it I was at the road. As we sat waiting we … Continue reading PCT Day 135 →

PCT Day 134

Posted on September 6, 2019September 1, 2019 by Up to the Hills

Mile 2195 campsite to Trout Lake Creek - 29 miles (46km) - 2224 miles total During the night there was a really weird sound. I thought it sounded slightly mechanical like a cross between an alarm and a whistle. Bonus, who I was camped with thought it sounded more human like. Neither of us knew … Continue reading PCT Day 134 →

PCT Days 131-132

Posted on September 4, 2019September 1, 2019 by Up to the Hills

Day 131 - Cascade Locks It was a day off. My first since Ashland. However, like all days off it is spent doing chores and I had a long list. I got the blog updated. Called people at home. Waxed my legs. Went to Hood River to Walmart to resupply. Sorted out the food for … Continue reading PCT Days 131-132 →

Timberline Lodge to 2121 campsite - 24 miles (38km) - 2121 miles total Breakfast at the lodge started at 7.30am which meant I got a bit of a sleep in! The breakfast was good, but my eyes were bigger than my belly and I ate too much. Surprisingly, I think my stomach has shrunk despite … Continue reading PCT Day 129 →

PCT Day 128

Posted on September 1, 2019August 28, 2019 by Up to the Hills

Warm Springs River to Timberline Lodge - 32 miles (51km) - 2097 miles total There was a climb first thing in the morning, but then a lovely gradual descent for 7 miles along beautiful dirt trail with hardly any rocks. Bliss. I did however have the crap scared out of me, when some horses came … Continue reading PCT Day 128 →

Had a blast catching up with hiker trash friends in Texas and Kentucky. I discovered Kentucky is the Adelaide of the States, underrated but full of gems. Horse racing, bourbon, the second amendment, Phil Collins, festive fall, the colonel, American football ๐Ÿˆ (which Iโ€™m totally in to) and crazy southern foods that are surprisingly good. โ€˜Murica ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ you and your people have been amazing over the last 6 months, but alas, it is now time to the land of Oz and take on the next adventure that is life.
Oh Canada, you have been a delight. The Canadian Rockies are beautiful. I think the Great Divide Trail may now be on my list of things to do. Caught up with TA friends, who gave me a true Canadian experience and got me as close as Iโ€™ll ever come to living out my childhood dream of being a Mighty Duck! ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ˜‚ The flames are now my team, so they better win this year ๐Ÿ”ฅ #Canada
Canada has turned me into a day hiker. I park the car, take a short stroll (1-5km) to something pretty (the park rangers classify these as longer walks! ๐Ÿ˜‚). I leap and bound along like an excited baby deer without a 30 pound pack on my back, then I hop back into my warm car. Iโ€™ve also been very excited about the snow. Iโ€™ve never been in falling snow before, it is like a magical winter wonderland ๐ŸŽ„ #canada #dayhiker
Post PCT Canadian Road trip is Amazing. So many animals. I think Iโ€™ve see more wildlife on a roadtrip, then hiking in the wilderness for 5 months ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. Elk, bear, more moose, squirrel, crow and some big horn sheep but they moved to fast for me to get a photo. Canada you are the perfect way to end the PCT. #canada
๐Ÿ’ฅ And weโ€™re back to PCT Day 156. It was an absolute joy not only to finish with these nerds but to hike a large portion of the trail with them. Iโ€™m also thankful for all the other people I met along the way and hiked with for a day or weeks at at time. Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ really turned it on for us. Sunshine, 2 moose on trail and then I tried the local delicacy- poutine. I have to say โ€˜Iโ€™m a fanโ€™ #pct2019 #pct #hiking #thruhike
PCT Days 152-155. 2647 miles total. This was the final countdown. The first two photos are part of my series called โ€˜I knew there were mountains in Washington, the dang clouds just needed to lift!โ€™ The next are when the clouds actually lifted! Washington is beautiful! #pct #pct2019 #thruhike
